I found these photos yesterday stuck in a folder. In October 1991 Kathleen Jesse, Rhoda London and I decided to take a trip to see some art in New York. Kathleen and I were pretty green but Rhoda was from New York so could show us the ropes. During our stay we went to Brooklyn to check out this studio space where we got stuck in the freight elevator with the building manager who forced the door open with a crowbar. After finding the photos I decided to look up Rhoda and found out she passed away this year in Portland. Thoughts of you and many thanks, Rhoda.
Picking up a falafel after Crazy Wisdom.
1. There is some kind of synthesis that can eventually be reached. I imagine this as a controlled, economic kind of painting.
2. It remains a mish-mash which alternates between too much gaud and careful, quiet (white) camouflage. I imagine this as a wild, aggressive thing.
