Gift Economy

table Barry Schwartz, psychologist, Swarthmore College: “Money isn’t a natural part of anything we do. It’s not a part of practicing medicine. You know, the natural thing to practicing medicine is healing people. Getting paid for it is unnatural, similarly with law and with any profession, teaching. So, maybe what happens is that what money does is, it disconnects people from the real point and purpose of their activity.”-What Drives Motivation in the Modern Workplace, PBS Newshour, April 15, 2010 (video)

After Aura

Posted on: April 5th, 2010 by mar

A snapshot from a Terry Eagleton lecture, The death of criticism During my recent treck to the SFMOMA Luc Tuymans retrospective I failed to see any difference between standing in front of these paintings and seeing them reproduced on line or in books. In fact I like them much better reproduced. I found an article that called them “perfectly transportable” which is probably very post aura but if I’m leaving my computer screen to see the real deal, I have to confess I’m probably looking for some aura or at least a little color.
