Joan Mitchell biography by Pat Albers

front cover of Joan Mitchell: Lady Painter by Patricia Albers Just finished this fantastic biography. Jed Perl writes, “Patricia ALBERS has written a book about Mitchell that I cannot imagine will ever be improved upon, so graceful and incisive is her account of the artist’s hellbent life and lyric art.” – NYTimes book review: Lee Krasner and Joan Mitchell: Abstract Expressionist Lives

White balance

Either/Or
1. There is some kind of synthesis that can eventually be reached. I imagine this as a controlled, economic kind of painting.
2. It remains a mish-mash which alternates between too much gaud and careful, quiet (white) camouflage. I imagine this as a wild, aggressive thing.
